The 62nd day of the war in Ukraine: Fierce fighting in the east

Ukrainian officials said the fighting was fierce in the two eastern regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, as Russian forces opened many offensive points.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk region’s military service, said that Russian forces had carried out several missile strikes on targets in the city of Avdiivka, in the province. Donetsk.

In the province Luganskthree civilians were killed in the town of Popasna when a building collapsed due to shelling, according to Serhiy Hayday, head of the regional military agency.

“The situation in Popasna is extremely difficult. Street fighting continues. The enemy fires heavy weapons from a distance, while planes continuously bomb the residential area,” Hayday said.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry today announced that on the night of April 25, high-precision missiles hit four Ukrainian military facilities, including two ammunition depots in Kharkov. Russian forces also attacked 87 military facilities in Ukraine, destroying 59 armored vehicles, artillery, vehicles and killing a total of “500 enemy troops“.

During a visit to Moscow today, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, expressing his desire to reach a ceasefire “as soon as possible” and find a peaceful solution in Ukraine.
