The U-Boat Worx submersible company (Netherlands) introduced a new submersible model named Nexus, New Atlas reported on April 22. Nexus comes in two versions, the first version can carry 8 passengers (including two children) and one driver, the second version can carry a total of 7 people. Both have elliptical large pressure hulls with business class seats inside and about 914 liters of space for each person.
U-Boat Worx installs the largest entrance door with a submersible the size of a Nexus for easy entry and exit, and a passenger elevator can also be fitted. Passengers will have unrestricted visibility with the wide viewing window.
Nexus is optimized to be dropped into the sea and towed from a ship, but can also be deployed from land. The wireless controller helps steer the submersible away from the support vessel, while keeping the Nexus in place. The ship can dive to a depth of about 200 meters.
Nexus is equipped with a 62 kWh Li-ion battery with good pressure resistance, for 18 hours of operation after each charge, enough to do 10 dives per day. U-Boat Worx introduces this as the fastest multi-passenger submersible today. The ship is equipped with 10 6.4 kW thrusters for a maximum speed of 5.6 km/h and is capable of steering in any direction.
Like other U-Boat Worx submersibles, the Nexus will likely be geared toward serving high-end resorts, cruise lines and private customers. U-Boat Worx has not revealed pricing information, but it is likely that the price will be relatively expensive.
