The ‘hunt’ for metaverse talent in Vietnam

The scarcity of metaverse causes many Vietnamese projects to hire foreign personnel at high costs, affecting project progress.

Research by JobHopin – the first AI recruitment platform in Vietnam – shows that along with the flourishing metaverse project is the thirst for skilled human resources. Many metaverse startups are willing to support training fees or spend large sums of money to hunt for true talent.

Mr. Bui Quang Tinh Tu, JobHopin’s growth director, said that from 2021 to now, there are more than 4,000 vacancies in the fields of recruitment. metaverse, blockchain, DeFi. In the last 60 days, up to 900 new positions opened. The existing human resources in the market only meet about 15-20% of the needs of enterprises.

Why are metaverse personnel scarce?

Industry experts say that human resources are always a headache in high-tech industries, and the metaverse is no exception. Currently, the majority of experts and good artists in the industry tend to work for large companies around the world, making metaverse personnel especially scarce in Vietnam.

Mr. Tri Pham, founder and director Whydah, one of the pioneering startups to build an open metaverse platform in Vietnam, said that in the field of metaverse product and service development, the company needs more than 50 key specialized personnel. Compared with the actual demand, there is still a shortage, it is estimated that 3-4 times more human resources are needed and the company must mainly rely on resources returning from abroad.

“100% of the leadership positions and more than 50% of the company’s employees are people who have lived, studied and worked for many years abroad,” he said. In order to find the shortage of human resources, the company even has to look to the supplies from the international market with expensive costs.

According to him, human resources in the metaverse field have many similarities with the blockchain industry in terms of scarcity and heat in recruitment. People who make metaverse need creativity, imagination, aesthetic eye and skill to be able to realize ideas. “If blockchain is a combination of technology and finance, metaverse is the intersection of art, creativity and blockchain. The core staff in metaverse are industry leaders in different fields,” said Mr. Tri. speak.

Many metaverse projects in Vietnam confirm that current human resources are completely unable to meet the growing needs of the industry. This is a problem that has happened with many new technology fields before such as AI, blockchain.

Kevin Tung Nguyen, CEO & Founder of JobHopin, said that many of the company’s partners are racing to launch the project soon, leading to large-scale recruitment demand. “Metaverse is the future, and this future needs a lot of good people. The thirst for human resources because it always needs ‘rains of talented people’ to cool down,” he said.

Metaverse engineers can participate in building both VR, AR, IoT hardware and software such as Web 3.0 platform, smart contract, mobile/web application. “In Vietnam, besides a few companies capable of manufacturing hardware, most focus on software and design. In the 3D outsourcing segment, domestic engineers are still a preferred choice. of major game and metaverse manufacturers in the world,” said Tri.

He believes that personnel in a new field like the metaverse will still operate according to the law of supply and demand and the principle of elimination. More demand than supply will attract more workers from other industries through competitive salaries and opportunities for advancement as well as discovering new industries. The principle of elimination will filter out quality products, organizations and people that create value and attract users.

Global metaverse human thirst

Not only in Vietnam, the hunt for talent in the metaverse industry is also taking place on a global scale. Domestic projects not only have to search and train, but also have to compete directly with international projects to retain engineers.

Thepaper According to statistics from the National Intellectual Property Administration of China at the end of February, the number of patent registration on the metaverse has surpassed 16,000 applications, nearly double the 8,534 applications recorded at the beginning of the year. The “metaverse storm” also led to a wave of massive recruitment in this field.

Shan Gong, senior researcher at BOSS Direct Hiring, told DoNews that the keyword metaverse human resource search in China has increased rapidly since the end of 2021. The salary for personnel in this field falls in the range of 10-30 thousand yuan (35-104 million dong) a month, depending on the position. salary not including salary.

Thirst is also sweeping across Silicon Valley. Data from LinkedIn shows that at least 40 people working on the HoloLens team left Microsoft to join Meta. Tech giants are also ready to splurge to “hunt” employees with experience in developing Microsoft’s Hololens AR virtual reality glasses. Some companies even offer double salaries to attract metaverse talent.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that when Facebook changes its name to Meta, within a decade the virtual universe will have one billion users, with hundreds of billions of dollars created along with millions of jobs for creators and developers. and engineer.

How does Vietnamese startup solve the human resource metaverse problem?

“We see a strong shift in recruitment from traditional, non-blockchain technology companies to blockchain. In addition to attractive salaries, industry employees also receive many unique benefits. like owning cryptocurrencies founded and operated by the company itself. If these projects develop, the value of cryptocurrencies increases, the total benefits received at this time is not small.” JobHopin representative shared.

Local metaverse project developers say that training for technical, artistic, aesthetic, and creative fields in Vietnam still faces many difficulties. The field is currently too new to have a formal training program.

Mr. Tri said that the shortage of personnel is also one of the reasons that the project may collapse. Projects that are unable to train their successors and rely on their competitors’ talent hunt for hot growth will quickly run out of capital when the market adjusts. In addition, when filial piety, products and services are not of good quality, leading to projects lacking competitiveness and lagging behind.

“Spending money to hire foreign personnel or splashing money to attract talented people is only a temporary solution to very pressing problems. In the more distant future, we will be more deeply involved in training, develop standard curricula and inspire the young generations of Vietnam to participate in this field”, Mr. Tri shared.

From the perspective of a recruitment agency, Mr. Bui Quang Tinh Tu believes that in the next few years, human resource training organizations and technology companies will play a key role in providing and distributing human resources. staffing by partnering with prestigious organizations to create a new generation of talent in the industry. However, blockchain in general and metaverse in particular is still a highly difficult industry, requiring a lot of training time and in-depth. During that time, project developers can convince talent from other fields to move in.
