The impact caused the plane to be dented 67 cm long, 50 cm wide and 1 cm deep. In addition, the auxiliary engine air intake cover has some cracks in the corner.

However, the technical staff responsible for the pre-flight inspection and the pilot did not discover this problem until the technical staff at Phu Quoc checked after the flight and discovered it.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the incident poses a high safety threat (level C) out of 5 levels of aviation safety. The agency has also set up a team to investigate and verify the cause of the incident.

Aviation authorities have withdrawn the license of aircraft maintenance technicians due to the failure to detect the problem. If this employee wants to continue working, he or she will have to retake the exam to be re-granted a license to practice.

A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that flight VN1823 landed safely in Phu Quoc. After detecting damage on the fuselage, the aircraft was temporarily stopped for repair, and has since been returned to service.

According to the Circular stipulating civil aviation safety management, aviation safety accidents, incidents and incidents are classified as follows:
1. Accident: Level A.
2. Serious Incident: Level B.
3. Incidents threatening high safety: Level C.
4. Incidents threatening safety: Level D.
5. Case: Level E.
