According to the decisions of the Minister of Education and Training approving the list of books used in general education institutions, the 3rd, 7th and 10th grade textbooks of Vietnam Education Publishing House include: Connecting knowledge to life and Creative Horizons will be taught nationwide from the school year 2022 – 2023.

Vietnam Education Publishing House has declared the retail prices of textbooks for grades 3, 7, and 10 with the Price Management Department (Ministry of Finance) according to regulations. Textbook sets of this publisher have specific cover prices as follows:

Grade 3 textbooks from 177,000 VND/set to 183,000 VND/set (excluding English books)

Grade 7 textbooks from 208,000 VND/set to 209,000 VND/set (excluding English books)

A set of 10th grade textbooks ranges from 246,000 VND/set to 301,000 VND/set (depending on the combination of subjects and study topics chosen by the student).

New textbook grade 7.

The price of the 10th grade textbooks includes the total price of the book covers of 5/7 compulsory subjects (math, literature, defense and security education, physical education, experiential activities, career guidance), 5 subjects Selective study and 3 study topics.

Thus, compared with the price of the current textbooks, the new textbooks of grade 3, grade 7, grade 10 of the Vietnam Education Publishing House for the next school year will all increase very high.

Specifically, if the current 3rd grade textbooks (excluding English books) are only about 60,000 VND/set, the price of newly announced textbooks is nearly 210,000 VND/set.

Next school year, English will also change from elective to compulsory subject, so English textbooks are indispensable for all students.

The price of English textbooks is always the highest among other textbooks. Therefore, if English books are included, the price of 3rd grade textbooks will reach more than 300,000 VND/set.

Similarly, the price of the current 7th grade textbooks (excluding English books whose cover price is nearly 120,000 VND/set), the new set of textbooks that also do not include English books is nearly 210,000 VND/set.

For grade 10, the price of new textbooks that will be applied from the new school year will nearly double. Specifically, the price of the current 10th grade textbooks with 13 listed subjects is 164,000 VND.

With the news that textbook prices have skyrocketed, many parents are worried and can’t help but wonder whether the price of books has increased and the quality is commensurate.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Ha (Cau Giay) said that the new education program was introduced by the Ministry of Education and Training in the direction of modernity, leanness and quality assurance. Moreover, Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects are integrated in 1 book, which is Natural Science; History and Geography subjects are also integrated in one book.

This parent wondered why the program decreased, the book titles decreased, but the price of textbooks increased?

“I want the publishers to balance and save maximum costs to reduce the burden on parents and students.

Because, textbooks are compulsory documents for children’s learning, so every parent must buy them in full. However, for families with 3 children of school age, like her family, the price increase of 2-3 times for each set of books is really stressful.

Then parents also have to contribute a lot, buy clothes and learning tools for their children, in which textbooks are required, and there are enough reference books, “said Ms. Ha.

Many parents also agree that publishers should consider reducing the cost of textbooks, because in mountainous and disadvantaged areas, the high price of books is a great pressure on parents.

Explaining the “dizzying” price increase of textbooks, the Vietnam Education Publishing House informed that new textbooks have a higher price than current textbooks because the new books are designed in the direction of developing quality and competence. for students, enhance the image channel with many forms of vivid and attractive presentations and illustrations; book size 19 x 26.5 cm.
