According to WHO, the symptoms of Salmonella infection are relatively mild. In most cases, the patient will clear up on their own without treatment. However, the risk is higher for some pediatric and elderly patients as dehydration can become severe and life-threatening.

Salmonella bacteria can cause symptoms such as acute fever, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. There are about 2,500 different strains of Salmonella, but the most common strains that cause illness in humans are Typhimurium and Enteritidis.
