Opening of the world’s first “airport airport” for flying taxis, flying cars, and drones

Flying cars are one step closer to becoming a vehicle for everyone, with the first ever vertiport (airport for electric vertical take-off and landing) officially opened. .

Called Air-One, owned by Urban-Air, the airport is located in Coventry, UK, and is set up to serve as a landing pad for drones, flying cars and flying taxis.

Urban-Air founder Ricky Sandhu says the launch of Air-One is a “major milestone”.

He declared: “This is the kick-starter for a new era of transportation, a zero-emissions, zero-congestion era between and within cities that makes people healthier, happier and better-connected than ever before.”

“Cars have roads. Trains have tracks. The plane has an airport. Now, eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles) have Urban-Air Port.” Mr. Sandhu said this place will “opening up a new potential for the world”.

From design, to construction, and into operation, Urban-Air Port launched Air-One in just 15 months. Air-One is just the first in Urban-Air Port’s growing flying car infrastructure.

Future vertiport airports are planned for construction in other locations around the world, including in London, Los Angeles, Australia, South Korea, France, Germany, Scandinavia and Southeast Asia. A total of about 200 carports are expected to appear between now and 2027.

All are set up to serve key markets, including flying taxis, delivery drones, rescue vehicles, defense operations and logistics.
