Rumors of Margot Robbie becoming a Barbie doll began circulating in 2018. However, at this point, it is still uncertain as the producer is still deciding between many other actresses, including Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway. Mattel Studios at that time was also expected to release the film in May 2020, but due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was forced to postpone and move to 2023.
