The US has no intention of returning to Afghanistan to recover the “treasure” of billions of dollars

The above weapons are located in a country controlled by the Taliban: The group is considered an “enemy” by the US and has been trying to drive out of Afghanistan for two decades.

The Department of Defense has no plans to return to Afghanistan to “recover or destroy” the weapons, the report states.

The report, submitted to the US Congress, added that from 2005 to August 2021, Washington delivered a total of $18.6 billion worth of equipment to the Afghan Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).

The amount of military equipment worth 7.12 billion USD of this will remain in Afghanistan after the US completes the withdrawal process on August 30, 2021. These include aircraft, military vehicles, weapons, communications equipment and other military equipment, the report asserts.

Specifically, the number of abandoned aircraft has a total value of up to 923.3 million USD. More than 40,000 of the 96,000 military vehicles and more than 300,000 of the 427,300 US weapons handed over to ANDSF were left in Afghanistan when the US troops withdrew.

“Nearly all” US-supplied ANDSF communications, including military radio systems and encryption equipment, remain in Afghanistan.

“Nearly all” surveillance, night vision, “biometrics and positioning” equipment out of a total of nearly 42,000 specialized devices remain in Afghanistan, the report added.

“Much of the equipment” left behind in Afghanistan needs to receive the special maintenance that US Department of Defense contractors previously provided to the Afghan armed forces, the report asserts.
