Located in the world natural heritage area of ​​Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Chay River-Dark Cave is a favorite place to explore and experience every time visitors come to Quang Binh.

Chay River Dark Cave is located in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, belonging to the World Natural Heritage site Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. Area travel This place is 75km from Dong Hoi in the northwest direction, about 3km from Thien Duong Cave. The cave was discovered by the British Royal Caving Association and named Dark because of the dense darkness covering every corner of the cave.

Dark cave is both a water cave and a dry cave, discovered in 1990 with a length of nearly 6,000 m, a height of 80 m.

With flashlights and specialized equipment, visitors will become professional explorers, explore the underground river system, admire thousands of stalactite columns with all shapes and shimmering magic.

The cave is always attractive to attract tourists every time they come to Quang Binh land. In the cave, there are many stalactites with diverse shapes and colors. The old stalactites have turned color, some places are lemon yellow, some places are white, some places are moss green. In particular, Dark Cave owns stalactites with parasitic ferns – a rare image found in other caves.

Sustainable exploitation based on the available natural elements of the cave, adding many new and attractive services, Phong Nha – Ke Bang Tourism Center has been building many unique tour programs for tourists. this tourist spot.

In the rainy season, the rising river level has accumulated a layer of young mud, forming a large mud lake with enough essential minerals to help guests rest, relax and enjoy massage. When visitors come here, they will have a very unique and interesting experience at the natural mud bath right in the cave.

In September 2014, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board built a free swing system at Song Chay – Dark Cave. In the program of Quang Binh Cave Festival in 2015, the representative of the Vietnam Record Organization directly awarded the certificate for this project as “the free-swinging project with the longest 02 cables in Vietnam”.

This is the only project and the first time in Quang Binh that has attracted a large number of visitors, especially foreigners.

Chay River is one of the tributaries of the Son River, originating from Chay Waterfall. The reason for the name Chay waterfall is because the sound of the waterfall flowing sounds like the sound of a pestle pounding rice.

With a length of only about 10km, the Chay River has many beautiful rapids and contains diverse biological values ​​with many aquatic animals typical for Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Chay River has a depth of up to twenty meters, the riverbed is the sediment of limestone piled up on both banks.
