UN adopts resolution on veto power in Security Council

Accordingly, member countries United Nations General Assembly agreed to a draft Resolution entitled Permanent Mechanism on the United Nations General Assembly meeting when veto used in the United Nations Security Council. The resolution is co-sponsored by 84 member states of the United Nations.

According to this resolution, the President of the United Nations General Assembly will automatically convene the United Nations General Assembly (within 10 days) when there is a country within 5 days. Permanent member of the Security Council (also known as P5) cast a veto on a resolution.

At such a meeting, the veto-voting country is required to explain its reasons for the veto to the General Assembly.

Pursuant to Article 24 of the UN Charter, the resolution also requires the Security Council to submit a special report on the use of its veto power to the General Assembly at least 72 hours before the UN General Assembly deliberations. United Nations.

This is a draft resolution that was discussed more than two years ago and is now officially approved. The United States, China, Russia, France and the United Kingdom are five permanent members with veto power in the Security Council.
