65% of Africa’s population has Covid-19

In a new analysis published yesterday, the World Health Organization said, based on blood samples taken from African people between January 2020 and December By 2021, about 65% of people tested have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, equivalent to about 800 million cases of Covid-19.

In contrast, only about 8 million cases of Covid-19 were officially reported to the World Health Organization during that time period.

Africa has so far reported 11.5 million cases of Covid-19 including more than 250,000 deaths.

According to the World Health Organization, cases and deaths from Covid-19 in Africa have been on a downward trend since January this year. So far, only about 15% of people in Africa have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
