Local media posted videos showing a huge cloud of dust rising near the scene. According to CGTN channel, no casualties have been reported yet, but many people are trapped under the rubble. More than 100 rescuers are searching for survivors.

CCTV said that an additional 134 firefighters, 23 fire engines and 4 sniffer dogs were quickly deployed to the scene.

The local government said the collapsed building was built of brick and concrete, covering an area of about 800 square meters2.

Jimu News quoted a nearby shop owner as saying that the building had been under construction for more than a decade.

Building collapses are not uncommon in China regarding safety standards. In January this year, an explosion believed to have been caused by a gas leak caused a building in Chongqing city to collapse, killing more than 10 people.

In June 2021, a gas explosion occurred in a residential area of China, killing 25 people. That same month, 18 people died and several others were injured after a fire broke out at a martial arts training facility.
