Losing the Dutch number 2 player, ranked above the Chess King, Le Quang Liem still lost the championship full of regret
In the final match at the Oslo Esports Cup 2022, which took place early this morning (April 29), Vietnam’s No. 1 player Le Quang Liem had a suffocating victory when he had to use a tie-break series to defeat the No. 2 Dutch – Jorden Van Forest.
In the first game, Le Quang Liem made good use of the advantage of holding the white army ahead to deploy a reasonable strategy, gradually taking advantage of Van Forest. After 66 moves, the Vietnamese player was able to subdue his Dutch opponent.
Jorden Van Forestest proved the bravery of the 26th-ranked player in the world when he made many bold moves to quickly defeat Quang Liem in the second game after only 37 moves. The situation of the match was even in game 3 when both sides actively played firmly, thereby drawing each other after 60 moves. Despite being very determined, Quang Liem could not find a reasonable match to defeat Van Forest in game 4 and had to continue to accept the draw.

After 4 games with no victory or defeat, Le Quang Liem had the second match to enter a tie-break series of blitz chess to determine the winner. In the first game, Van Forest held a white piece but could not take advantage of the advantage to make a difference and the two sides continued to draw. Once again, Le Quang Liem affirmed his level in the content of blitz chess that took him to the top of the world with a convincing victory in the decisive game after only 25 moves. In the end, Quang Liem defeated the Dutch number 2 player Jorden Van Forestest with a score of 3.5 – 2.5.
While “Chess King” Magnus Carlsen and “Indian prodigy” Praggnanandhaa both lost in the last match, Vietnamese players have a chance to rise to the championship. However, he could not beat the opponent after 4 quick games of chess, thereby losing the unfortunate championship to the World Cup champion – Jan-Krzysztof Duda, who had lost to Quang Liem 2 days earlier.

Le Quang Liem won the second place, ahead of chess king Carlsen.
Although it is a bit regretful, in general, the Vietnamese Super Grandmaster had an excellent tournament when he defeated Chess King Carlsen, World Cup champion – Krzysztof Duda and even the world’s 8th ranked player Anish Giri. With 13 points won, Quang Liem won the runner-up and collected USD 32,500 in prize money, while Duda was right 1 point ahead of Liem and won the championship trophy with a reward of USD 210,000.
Thus, the number 1 player in Vietnam had a perfect run before returning to Vietnam to enter the 31st SEA Games, where he was expected to win 4 gold medals.
