RT company quoted information from Energy Corporation Gazprom Russia said Poland refused to pay for gas contracts in rubles under new Russian regulations.

Poland declared that it no longer needed gas from Russia. However, in practice, the country continued to buy Russian gas after the official supply was cut off. Now, gas from Germany is transferred back to Poland via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline,” said Gazprom representative Sergei Kupriyanov.

At 6:45 a.m. on April 29 (Polish time), the flow of gas delivered to Poland from Germany did not change much from the level at midnight on April 28. This shows that the current gas supply to Poland is temporarily stable despite Russia’s decision.

On April 27, Gazprom announced the suspension of all gas exports to Poland after Warsaw failed to pay in rubles according to the mechanism implemented by Moscow at the beginning of the month.

Russia also cut off the supply to Bulgaria for the same reason. This move was made by decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed at the end of March.

A month ago, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Poland will ban all imports of Russian gas, oil and coal from the end of this year.

According to the newspaper The Guardian, Poland has a long-term plan to protect itself against Russia’s decision to build a liquefied gas import terminal. Meanwhile, Bulgaria says it has enough gas and can get help from Greece.
