Chinese netizens recently passed on a video of a little girl being forced to dig for lotus by her father for 4 hours in the hot sun. According to the South China Morning Post, this 11-year-old girl is the daughter of Mr. Ye in Hubei (China).

“My daughter is in a rebellious phase. The teacher told me she didn’t want to go to school anymore.”Mr. Ye shared with Yidian Zixun.

As soon as he heard about it, he decided to take his daughter to the lotus field where her grandfather was working. Here, the little girl had to spend 4 hours in the hot sun to pick lotus seeds out of the mud. Due to prolonged exposure to the sun, she suffered from sunburn and peeling of her skin.

“Quickly take off your shoes and wade into the lagoon, if you don’t want to go to school, you have to accept the truth of this life.” Ye said loudly. With no other choice, the girl had to do as her father said, but she couldn’t stop wiping her tears with her shirt.

Sharing about the above punishment, Mr. Ye affirmed that forcing his daughter to dig for lotus roots was to let her see how hard the future would be if she didn’t study well. Immediately after being posted, the video sparked controversy over whether Mr. Ye was teaching his daughter an “important life lesson” or was unnecessarily harsh.
