The gateway to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi is congested because of the flow of people going home

With the long holiday, many people return to their hometown and travel, causing a long line of vehicles at the gateways of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, causing a prolonged traffic jam on the afternoon of April 29.

From 16:30, many gateway routes to the West such as National Highway 50, National Highway 1A, the number of cars pouring into the countryside is very large, many cars and motorbikes inching little by little. The highway section from Binh Dien bridge to Doan Nguyen Tuan street, Tan Tuc commune, Binh Chanh district, the car lane is kilometer long.

Carrying his wife and children from his company in Binh Duong to his hometown in An Giang, Mr. Hung, 36, said that this afternoon he actively asked to leave an hour early to avoid traffic jams, but in 30 minutes he could only go three kilometers. Two days before, he booked a car to return to his hometown, but the tickets were sold out.

At these roads, many traffic policemen stand along the above intersections to separate the traffic, control the long green light signal to give priority to the flow of vehicles to the West, limiting congestion. Some ambulances had to ask the police to pave the way to escape the crowded traffic.

At 6 p.m., the flow of cars continued to flow to the roads in the west of the city, extending for 2-3 km. Many motorbikes carry loads of furniture and luggage, weaving in the lanes of cars. The police tried to separate the traffic, but the congestion did not ease.

At the eastern gate of Ho Chi Minh City, from about 16:30 to 18:00, congestion becomes tense due to the high number of cars leaving the city.

On Mai Chi Tho Street, the section in front of An Phu intersection, Thu Duc city, at nearly 5:00 p.m., the line of cars stretched for more than two kilometers, slowly waiting to get on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay highway. Part of the motorbike road, the number of vehicles is less, only local congestion at some intersections. On the highway, in the evening, the line of cars also “dragon snakes” in the direction from Ho Chi Minh City through Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau…

At Cat Lai ferry, Thu Duc city, the number of passengers started to increase from 3pm at the beginning of the wharf in Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province. Guests are mostly workers in industrial zones in Dong Nai, waiting for the ferry to cross Ho Chi Minh City to the western provinces. While going in the opposite direction to the city, cars began to flock to Nguyen Thi Dinh Street via the ferry from about 17:30, mostly motorbikes and personal cars.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan, deputy director of the Youth Volunteer Ferry Management Enterprise (Cat Lai ferry management unit), forecast today the number of passengers will reach 57,000-60,000 arrivals, up 30% compared to weekdays. “The wharf mobilizes a maximum of 7 passenger ferries and regulates flexibly to limit congestion,” said Mr. Tuan.

In HanoiFrom 3pm, the main roads began to be congested due to the large number of people flocking to their hometown. Thang Long Boulevard, heading to the elevated road to get to National Highway 1A, is more than a kilometer long. Below, Pham Hung, Khuat Duy Tien and Nguyen Xien streets are also crowded with people returning to their hometown.

Major Tran Quang Chinh, Vice Captain of Traffic Police No. 6, said that in order to reduce congestion at Pham Hung roads, where My Dinh bus station is located, the team has arranged 100% of its troops to participate in traffic regulation. “We will not let the scene of passenger cars slow down to catch passengers,” Mr. Chinh said.

Unlike the holiday on the anniversary of the ancestors, this time the bus stations also recorded a sharp increase in the number of passengers by 200-300%. Mr. Pham Manh Hung, Director of Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company, said that to serve the travel needs of people, the company plans to arrange nearly 800 additional vehicles.
