Beach handball (SEA Games 2019, 2021)

Beach handball is a team sport where two teams pass and bounce a ball, trying to hit the opponent’s goal. This game is similar to team handball, but is played in the sand instead of in the arena. Since the ball loses most of its bounce on the sand, there is little or no dribbling.

Electronic sports (eSport) is a controversial sport. In essence, eSport is a competition for playing video games.

This sport made its debut at the SEA Games in 2019 with six competitions: DOTA 2, Tekken 7, Starcraft II, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor and Hearthstone.

Diving (SEA Games 2003, 2009, 2011, 2021)

It is a sport similar to traditional swimming using fins, monofins, snorkels, and other specific equipment. Diving was first held at the world championships in 1976, then appeared regularly at the World Games since 1981.

At the Southeast Asian Games, diving has been around since the 22nd SEA Games in 2003. So it’s no surprise that this sport will feature for the fourth time at the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam. next May.

Jiujitsu (SEA Games 2019, 2021)

The sport made its debut at the 2019 SEA Games and will be available during the 2021 Southeast Asian Games.

Kurash (SEA Games 2019, 2021)

Kurash is a form of wrestling popular in countries like Turkey, Armenia and Uzbekistan. Strikes, buckles, and items below the belt are prohibited. This factor makes Kurash a dramatic and beautiful sport for the viewers and safe for the fighters. The sport made its debut at the Asian Games in 2018 and made its debut at the SEA Games in 2019.

Kurash has brought many medals for Vietnamese sports

Muay Thai (SEA Games 2005-2009, 2013, 2019) and Kickboxing (SEA Games 2019, 2021)

This combat sport is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins in strikes and squeezes. Thailand is a proponent of the sport and has trained a large number of top Muay Thai fighters since the rules were codified in the 1920s.

Since then, Muay Thai has been combined with some other traditional martial arts to create kickboxing – a sport that debuted at the 30th SEA Games.

Vovinam (2011, 2013, 2021)

As the most developed martial art in Vietnam, Vovinam is practiced by athletes in two forms: with and without weapons. In addition to hand, elbow, and kick strikes, this martial art also features some unique techniques, such as the pull kick to rotate the body and knock the opponent to the ground.

SEA Games 31 will take place from May 12 to May 23 in Vietnam with 40 sports (526 competitions), held in Hanoi and 11 neighboring cities and provinces. This is the second SEA Games that Vietnam has hosted, after the first time in 2003.
