Subjective to COVID-19 and warnings from India

India is a country that has achieved vaccine coverage COVID-19 high, helping to bring normal life to people. Because of that, many Indians have no longer paid attention to the epidemic prevention regulations. And this is causing particular concern to the medical community, especially when the lessons of the “tsunami” of the pandemic in 2021 are still there.

Now, the severe outbreak of the Delta variant in India seems to many in the country a fading memory.

Joyeeta Basu, a doctor in New Delhi, India, said: “Recall the time in December 2020, the number of infections in India also dropped sharply at that time. Many people thought that India achieved community immunity. They gladly removed the mask, removed the distance, which everyone now sees as dangerous mistakes. But now those mistakes are happening again.”

Most states in India have lowered their epidemic prevention measures to varying degrees, facilitating economic activity.

The current situation is said to be much better than when the Delta “tsunami” hit, with more than 1.8 billion doses of vaccine given to over 1.3 billion people.

However, the mentality that when vaccination is covered, the new waves of epidemics, if any, are also insignificant, making doctors like Professor Mayank Vats feel worried.

Professor Mayank Vats said: “There is a widespread myth that the Omicron variant has attenuated to a dangerous degree, and that the post-Omicron variant will weaken further. In fact, this is a species. The virus is very unpredictable. It can mutate in any direction.”

Looking back at history, it took the world 4 years to get over the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. On the one hand it shows that the pandemic will have to end sooner or later. However, on the other hand, there is no guarantee that this world will be able to overcome the pandemic in more than 2 years.

Dr. Joyeeta Basu shared: “The past two years have been full of hardships. As livelihoods we have to open, we understand that. But let’s open the door responsibly such as ensuring masks, restaurants, bars. bar or theater. Know how to limit the number of people to not too crowded, or closely check the certificate of vaccine attendees.”

Over the past two years, the pandemic has made many societies better understand the characteristics of COVID-19. If there’s one thing we can be sure of about this pandemic, it’s the virus’ ability to constantly and rapidly mutate. Humans still have to adapt to survive, but adapting does not mean “closing our eyes and turning away” from the risks we may face.
