The airport was in turmoil because tourists brought home artillery shells as souvenirs
On April 29, a rare incident occurred at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport (Israel capital) after a passenger was discovered carrying artillery shells in his luggage.
As soon as security forces discovered the bullet, the airport was immediately put on alert. Many passengers panicked and fled or collapsed on the floor for fear of an explosion. Some even shouted to warn of “a Palestinian attacker”.
A search later revealed that the shell above belonged to an American tourist family.
They found shells while visiting the Golan Heights and wanted to bring them home as a souvenir. The Golan Heights was the site of fierce fighting during the 1967 Six-Day War, and remnants of the conflict are still scattered throughout the area.
According to Times of Israelthe shell has an old appearance but has not exploded.
After security forces ruled out any danger, the passengers were allowed to return to the airport.
The family of the tourist was allowed to board a plane back to the US after a brief investigation, but of course not allowed to bring their “souvenirs”.
