On April 26, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City opened a first-instance trial for defendant Nguyen Ngoc Duc (40 years old, living in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City) for the crime of “Murder”.

According to the prosecution, Duc and Nguyen Thi Thu Van have been married since 2006 and have two children together. The process of living together, because Duc was addicted to gambling, borrowed money from many people, affecting family life, so Ms. Van filed for divorce.

On April 9, 2021, the People’s Court of Hoc Mon district accepted Ms. Van’s request for a divorce from Duc.

Previously, during the time when the People’s Court of Hoc Mon district accepted Ms. Van’s divorce petition against Duc, because Ms. Van did not agree to divide the amount of 2.6 billion dong from Ms. Van selling her house in Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City. .HCM (property of Van’s parents for her), so Duc repeatedly threatened.

Right in the conciliation, when she still did not share with Duc the money from the sale of the house, he immediately took out his sandals and hit his wife in the face. Next, Duc also went to Van’s office to ask for money.

Unable to change his wife’s decision, Duc texted Ms. Van and Mr. Nguyen Huu Tai (Van’s brother) threatening that if Ms. Van refused to share the money, Duc would use gasoline to burn Ms. Van and her brother-in-law’s family. .

At 6 p.m. on January 25, 2021, after draining gas from a motorbike, carrying a knife, Duc drove around waiting for Van to pick up the child from school with the purpose of filling his wife with gasoline and burning her to death.

At 19:00 on the same day, when he discovered his wife walking on Le Thi Hong Gam street, Hoc Mon district, Germany, she immediately forced Van’s car to the side of the road. Seeing this, Ms. Van panicked, abandoned the car and ran away, but was chased by Duc, grabbed her collar and poured gasoline on her head and sister.

Fortunately, because Mr. Tai was suspicious, he secretly went behind Duc to protect Ms. Van, so when he saw Duc hit his sister, Mr. Tai rushed in to clamp his neck, keeping his hand empty for Duc to take the lighter to burn. sister Van. At the same time, Mr. Tai called for people to come out to support, control, and bring Duc to the police station to denounce his behavior.

At the trial, the German defendant confessed to the offence.

Considering that the defendant’s actions have infringed on the lives and health of others, which are protected by law. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly handle to re-educate separately and to deter and prevent in general.

After considering, the trial panel sentenced defendant Nguyen Ngoc Duc to 8 years in prison.
