Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio begins official visit to Vietnam

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio was born on July 29, 1957 in Tokyo. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Waseda University in 1982.

In 1982, he worked at Japan Long-Term Credit Bank; in 1987, he was Secretary to Congressman Kishida Fumitake (father).

In July 1993, he was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time (so far, he has won 10 elections); in 1997, he was Head of the Youth Committee, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). In 1999, he was Deputy Minister of Construction (2nd Obuchi Cabinet); in 2000 as Deputy Minister of Construction (Mori Cabinet); in 2001 as Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Koizumi Cabinet).

In 2005, he held the position of Chairman of the Committee on Health, Labor, Social Welfare, House of Representatives; August 2007 – August 2008, he was the Secretary of State in charge of Okinawa and the Northern Territory, Quality of Life Policy, Science and Technology and Regulatory Reform, Initiative “Re-Challenging” (No. the 1st Abe and the Fukuda Cabinet).

In 2008, he was Minister in charge of Consumer Affairs (Fukuda Cabinet), Minister in charge of Space Development (Fukuda Cabinet). In 2011-2012, he held the position of Chairman of the National Assembly Policy Committee, LDP party; December 2012 – July 2017, he was Foreign Minister (2nd and 3rd Abe Cabinet). From July to August 2017, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense; From August 2017 to September 2019, he was the Head of Policy Research Department, LDP party.

In September 2021, he held the position of Chairman of the LDP; In October 2021, he was the 100th Prime Minister (concurrently Foreign Minister from November 4-9, 2021). From November 10, 2021 to present, he is the 101st Prime Minister of Japan. Currently, Mr. Kishida is still the General Secretary of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Union.

This is the first visit to Vietnam by Mr. Kishida Fumio as Prime Minister of Japan since taking office (October 2021), and in response to the official visit to Japan by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. (November 2021).

The visit aims to deepen Vietnam-Japan relations and promote the implementation of the results of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Japan; strengthening Vietnam – Japan political trust and good relations between the two countries’ senior leaders on the basis of “feelings, sincerity, trust”; strengthen substantive cooperation in all fields, meeting the interests and aspirations of the two peoples.
