On April 30, the Consulate General of Vietnam in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia, has coordinated with the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia to organize a promotion and introduction of Vietnamese agricultural products, especially frozen sapodilla, to “kangaroo” consumers. This event also marks the first time that a large volume of frozen Vietnamese sapodilla has been officially imported into the Australian market.
According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Sydney, the event was organized in the form of stalls introducing products, conducted at Australia’s famous weekend farmers market, Pardington Market, in Sydney city, New South Wales state.
Present at the event, the Consul General of Vietnam in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia, Mr. Nguyen Dang Thang, shared that the COVID-19 pandemic was under control in both Vietnam and Australia during this time. Recently, trade activities between the two countries have also been resumed and are on a very positive development track. According to the Consul General, in the first quarter of 2022, the export turnover of agricultural products from Vietnam to Australia recorded a growth of more than 30% over the same period last year. This is a very good sign, because in 2021, the total import and export turnover between the two countries has also grown significantly compared to the previous year, exceeding the threshold of 12.4 billion USD.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Thang said that this event is an opportunity for the Consulate General of Vietnam to cooperate with the Trade Office and businesses to introduce more Vietnamese agricultural products, so that Australians can experience the best experiences in the world. new product category, namely frozen sapodilla. This is a new direction in marketing Vietnamese products to important markets, including Australia. In addition to Vietnam’s fresh agricultural products that are known and loved by the Australian public, such as longan, mango, dragon fruit and lychee, Vietnam now has more processed and frozen products to make increase the value of exported goods, and at the same time diversify markets.
Many local people visited the booth introducing Vietnamese agricultural products. Most expressed interest when tasting sapodilla, along with a number of other fruits and food products with Vietnamese brands. Mrs. Melenin Packer was completely surprised by the delicious, sweet taste of sapodilla. Ms. Packer said this was the first time she had tasted the fruit and it was certain that sapodilla would be on her list of must-buy fruits in the near future. Ms. Sara James, who visited Vietnam 6 years ago, shared that Vietnamese cuisine is probably one of the most diverse and attractive cuisines in the world. Although Australia and Vietnam have similar systems of fruits and vegetables, there are still differences in taste and quality. She likes durian, lychee, mango and of course Vietnamese sapodilla. The increasing appearance of Vietnamese fruits in the Australian market will bring more experience opportunities for local consumers.
According to Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia, Nguyen Phu Hoa, Vietnamese enterprises have initially succeeded in diversifying agricultural products for export to the Australian market. Most recently, a shipment of 13 tons of frozen sapodilla, imported by Vinrec company, officially arrived and began to be distributed on the Australian market. Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoa believes that Vietnam’s sapodilla fruit will surely succeed and find a foothold in one of the most demanding markets in the world.
Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoa shared that in 2021, the Trade Office organized a series of programs to introduce Vietnamese agricultural products and were well received by Australian consumers. Following that success, in 2022, the Trade Office will actively expand forms of advertising and introduce Vietnamese goods to the Australian public, contributing to further promoting trade exchanges between the two countries.
