Russia fires missiles to destroy US and European arsenals in Ukraine

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told Sputnik radio that high-precision Onyx missiles destroyed a warehouse near the city of Odessa.

During a short press conference on May 1, Mr. Konashenkov said that this warehouse contains weapons and ammunition sent to Ukraine by the US and European countries. Russia also destroyed an airstrip in the missile attack.

After Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, the US, its NATO allies and the European Union (EU) increased the supply of weapons to Ukraine. In the middle of last week, President Joe Biden asked the US Congress for emergency assistance of 33 billion USD for Ukraine.

At the end of February, Germany also approved the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Since then, the country has transferred about 2,500 anti-aircraft missiles, 900 anti-tank missile launchers, 3,000 rockets, 100 machine guns … to help Kiev defend. However, Germany has not yet supplied heavy weapons such as tanks, cannons and armored vehicles to Ukraine.

Earlier, Polish government official Michal Dworczyk said that Poland ranked second after the US in the number of weapons shipped to Ukraine since February 24. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki confirmed Warsaw is supplying Kiev with various weapons, including anti-aircraft and anti-armor equipment, weapons and heavy ammunition. Mr. Morawiecki estimated that the amount of Poland’s military assistance to Ukraine has exceeded 1.6 billion USD.

Russia has repeatedly objected to the West sending weapons to Ukraine continuously, accusing it of fueling the fire and destroying the negotiation process. Moscow also warned against targeting foreign arms convoys passing through Ukraine.
