The Speaker of the US House of Representatives makes a surprise visit to Kiev
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a number of senior officials had a surprise visit to the city of Kiev.
“I’m meeting with you Pelosi in Kiev. The US is the first country to support Ukraine in the war with Russia. Thank you for helping our country defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter today (May 1).
Meanwhile, Ms. Pelosi said that the purpose of the Ukraine war is to fight for all.
“We believe we are visiting you to say thank you for the fight for freedom… Your fight is a fight for everyone. Our pledge will always be there for Ukraine, until the war is over,” Pelosi said.
According to Al Jazeera news agency, some members of the US House of Representatives such as Jason Crow, Jim McGovern and Adam Schiff accompanied Ms. Pelosi on this visit to Kiev.
It is expected that Ms. Pelosi and US officials will travel to Poland today (May 1). After that, Ms. Pelosi will meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda, and thank the Warsaw government for its many humanitarian efforts for Ukrainian refugees.
