He used to be an alumnus of Hanoi High School for the Gifted in Physical Education and Sports. Having been predestined with sports since childhood, but few people know that Vu Thanh An’s starting point was a talented football player in Hanoi from 2003 to 2005. In the regional arena, Thanh An has no opponent in the content of sword slashing. At the last 2 SEA Games, he won 2 gold medals in individual and team events. Fans gave him the nickname “sword slashing king” or “sword fighting hotboy”. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 27-year-old swordsman surprised when he defeated the world champion to enter the round of 16.

At the 30th SEA Games, Vu Thanh An defeated the Filipino swordsman to win the gold medal, so playing at home despite many difficulties, he is determined to achieve the best results.
