The most brutal destructive power in history

The use of the FOAB (Father of Bombs) bomb is considered a special event because it is the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the world. FOAB bomb has an explosive power equivalent to 44 tons of TNT, this weapon can plow through any target.

It is known that the FOAB bomb, also known as ATBIP (vacuum bomb with enhanced explosive power) was tested for the first time and only on September 11, 2007.

The radius of destruction of the FOAB bomb is up to more than 300m. Like other thermonuclear bombs, FOAB explodes in mid-air, igniting a mixture of fuel and air, thereby creating an enormous amount of destruction.

FOAB bombs are usually carried by Tu-160 strategic bombers. Despite its powerful explosive power, compared with the atomic bomb FOAB still has a very modest explosive power, equivalent to only 0.3% of the explosive energy of the atomic bomb used in Hiroshima.

The FOAB bomb has such great destructive power thanks to the use of barometric technology. This technology uses the air around the explosion center to trigger a fuel reaction, instead of introducing an oxidizer into the bomb’s mixed fuel. Not having to stuff more oxidants gives the bomb more space to store more explosives, creating a super-strong, super-heated shock wave that can vaporize everything around the center of the explosion.

This weapon has a two-stage detonation mechanism. A special smaller detonator will be activated first, spreading the flammable fuel around in a cloud shape to mix with the air. Then a special explosive block weighing more than 7 tons was activated, igniting almost all of the surrounding air, creating a large fireball and a powerful shock wave.

The shock wave generated by a thermobaric bomb detonated in the air propagates much further than a conventional explosion. The combustion of air in the explosion also creates its own vacuum, greatly increasing damage and damage.

On September 11, 2007, a Russian Tu-160 strategic bomber dropped a test version of the FAOB bomb on a test site. “The destructive power is mainly caused by ultrasonic shock waves and extremely high temperatures, causing all living things to evaporate,” the report after the assessment test.

General Alexander Rushkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Army at the time, said that FOAB was smaller in size than MOAB (Mother of All Bombs), but it was more powerful, because of the large explosion center temperature. twice that of an American bomb, reaching the same destructive power as a tactical nuclear weapon. So far, this type of bomb has never been deployed in real combat.
