Foreign tourists are excited to return to check-in on the train street
The train street is a 2 km long road, connecting Le Duan, Tran Phu, Cua Dong and Phung Hung, once a place that attracted many foreigners and young people in the country. After more than a month of international tourism reopening, the number of tourists coming to visit and check-in gradually increased.
According to Zing, Mr. Bryan (French) took commemorative photos for his wife and children. The man said that this was the first time his family had set foot in Vietnam and decided to visit the Chinatown area after researching online. “It’s also the first time I’ve watched a train go by at such a close distance,” he said.
Cheryl and Zi Han (Singaporean) couple chose Hanoi as the destination for their first trip after travel restrictions were lifted in their home country. Cheryl said that the two planned a wedding photo shoot with the idea of shooting in street locations and going to the train street cafe at the suggestion of the photographer. “I find this place quite strange and interesting. I think the photos taken here will help the two’s wedding photos become more unique,” he expressed.

When the train passed, tourists simultaneously used their phones to record. The owner of a coffee shop said that if the restaurant in this area wants to do business, they must comply with the regulations and sign a commitment to only operate indoors, not to encroach on the railway corridor. Stores often add iron chains on the outside, connecting the two sides of the door to limit the range of standing while the train passes, in case of crowded customers.
According to Great Solidarity, on international tourism forums, the Phung Hung train street area is voted by many foreign tourists as one of the must-visit attractions when coming to Hanoi.
In 2019, this place had a lot of controversy when it had to close cafes to ensure the safety of the railway corridor because of the situation where cafes put tables and chairs in the middle of the train line.
After more than two years, Phung Hung train street began to show signs of reopening for business activities to welcome tourists. Many business households have remodeled and redecorated their shops to welcome the arrival of guests during the holidays from April 30 to May 1.
The Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee said that the shops are still open to welcome visitors but must absolutely comply with railway safety regulations. Hoan Kiem District also said that it has directed wards to regularly check, remind and strictly handle cases of violations of railway corridor safety on this route.
