When it comes to CEO of Trung Thuy Group, Nguyen Trung Tin is known to many young people as one of 30 young faces under 30 honored by Forbes Vietnam magazine in 2015. But few people know his childhood dream. He is not a businessman but an architect.

“Before, my dream since childhood was that I wanted to be an architect. When I was a child, I followed my father, when he saw the drawings of buildings, I also drew them. When I graduated from grade 12, I submitted my application to the school. University of Architecture in Australia and was admitted to the School of Economics at the same time”, shared CEO Trung Tin.

Then he received a two-page letter from his father. He supported Tin’s decision but frankly commented that his drawing ability is not good, even a bit bad. “If you are an architect, you will forever design buildings for others. But if you study economics and business successfully, you will have the opportunity to invite good architects to design buildings. for you,” he shared.

Therefore, Trung Tin decided to choose the economic path. However, in 2009, when he graduated from college, the world economy was in recession. Therefore, finding a job is also very difficult. After 6 months of looking for a job in Melbourne, only being accepted into the bank’s teller positions, Trung Tin decided to return to Vietnam.

“The first time I didn’t have a job, it was fortunate that my family had a company. My parents said it was ok to join the company as a trainee. Although I had the title of marketing intern, my real job at that time was an assistant. mom. Any meeting mom has, I attend. Parents probably want to cram knowledge through those meetings,” this CEO recalled.

As common sense, many people will think as a family company why Trung Tin does not enter the pre-arranged senior positions. However, he frankly said that this time is very inexperienced and lacks knowledge in many aspects.

“So I don’t have the ability to enter high positions, not to mention the general director, but the head of the department is not capable,” he shared.

After working at Trung Thuy, he withdrew and started his own business by borrowing 10 billion VND to open Sin Ultra Lounge – a successful F&B model after 1 year and repaying both capital, interest and space rent. about 13 billion VND.

After the success of Sin Lounge, Tin continued to open Ace Night – a modern club in 2013. At the end of 2014, he opened Mama restaurant specializing in Thai cuisine. On average, these 3 projects welcome more than 100 guests per day and 700-800 guests on weekends. In addition, Tin also opened a company Hush Creative specializing in interior design, marketing and event organization. Most recently, this CEO opened a Dreamplex complex to support the startup community in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh.

Despite the support from his family background, by proving his true ability, Trung Tin was appointed to the CEO position in place of his father in 2014. To do this, according to him, he needed to roll into life. and learn constantly.

“At that time, I was also fortunate to have a brother who advised me: For those who have just graduated from school, do not have much experience, do not know what they want, do not know what they like, and have any ability, be like a sponge in soap that absorbs a lot of water. Be like that department, absorb knowledge, gain experience and don’t care what position or environment you’re working in. As much as you can absorb, at some point you will know what you do and need,” shared CEO Trung Tin.

The point of learning from everything is also more evident from many world-famous entrepreneurs like Richard Branson. The Virgin Group founder dropped out of school at the age of 16, but he didn’t stop studying there. “There are so many things in life that we think no matter how many we have, education is at the top of this list“, he emphasized.

Even as a child Richard Branson never really enjoyed going to school. School was not easy for him. He considered himself not a good student partly because of his dyslexia and partly because of his hyperactive nature. The boy couldn’t concentrate in class and spent most of his time at school daydreaming and starting new small businesses.

Getting a degree is just the beginning, he says, and it doesn’t guarantee success. You’ll need a good work ethic and determination to succeed too – both in life and in business. You’ll also need some luck.
