Police conclude the case of a teacher at a specialized school accused of abusing male students

On April 27, Tra Vinh Provincial Police received results to deal with the case of a teacher of Nguyen Thien Thanh High School for the Gifted being accused of offending honor and dignity and sexually abusing students.

In connection with this case, Tra Vinh Provincial Police received 8 complaints against the Literature teacher of Nguyen Thien Thanh High School for the following acts: Abuse of power, intimidation, appropriation of students’ money and class fund; Using offensive language, inappropriate for the educational environment; Harassing students causing psychological effects; Invasion of the privacy of individual students and Sexual assault of students.

In the above 8 denunciations, there are 5 former students of Nguyen Thien Thanh High School for the Gifted and 1 former student of Tra Vinh Pedagogical Practice School, accusing the teacher of Literature “.abuse of authority, threats, appropriation of student money and class funds“.

Specifically, this teacher often asked students to do their own work, clean the house for the teacher. Some times, students have to spend personal money to buy things for teachers. There are cases where students work at the request of the teacher, they will be able to raise their score in the semester exam in Literature.

The teacher is also accused of asking students in the class to pay money so that when they take exams outside the province, they have money to use. However, due to the epidemic, the children did not go and this money is currently kept by the teacher.

For the denunciation”use offensive language, inappropriate for the educational environment; Harassment of students has a psychological effect”: When students do not satisfy with their work, the teacher uses vulgar words and objectionable words to curse, ridicule, insult, even hit and slap once.

For the “Invading the privacy of individual students“, when students come to help with housework for teachers or attend extra classes, this teacher takes the phone to check the content inside.

The above cases occurred in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 -2020. The individuals did not tell anyone, nor did they have any evidence to prove the incident. Recently, because I saw on social networks there were articles about the behavior of Van teachers, so I wrote a denunciation.

A former student of Tra Vinh Pedagogical Practice School (school year 2017 -2020) and a former student of Duong Quang Dong High School, Cau Ngang district (school year 2013 -2016) accused the aforementioned Literature teacher of having lewd behavior.

The teacher did not admit it

Through working with the police, Van’s teacher was accused of admitting in the teaching process, because of his concern and trust in students, when they did wrong, they scolded, sometimes not paying attention to their words. I don’t know if it’s offensive to the students. This teacher does not admit to using vulgar words to curse, not hit or slap students in the face.

The teacher admitted that he asked students for the 2019-2020 school year to pay for the class fund. However, this teacher said he spent 400,000 VND on charity for a poor student in Cau Ngang district and bought health insurance for a poor family in Tra Vinh City. The teacher said that the above amount is ready to be returned to the class upon request.

The teacher does not accept asking students to do their own work, clean the house, buy things for him. In addition, do not admit to arbitrarily taking a student’s phone to check the content inside; Do not admit to raising semester test scores for some students. The teacher explained that “the grading and reporting of semester scores are non-interventional, so they cannot help students improve their grades”.

This teacher did not admit to knowing, not admitting to having committed lewd acts, having sex with any student.

According to the police agency, at present, there are only testimonies of the whistleblower but no concrete evidence. Just as the teacher was accused of denying the related cases, it was not possible to prove his crime.

In addition, some cases are long, considering the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution is no longer available, as well as some cases with no criminal signs.

Tra Vinh Police will notify whistleblowers of the results of handling the case. At the same time, it is proposed that Tra Vinh Department of Education and Training have a direction to handle cases of violations of professional ethics for the above teachers.
