Russia announced an attack on Western weapons depot in Odessa

Russia said today that its army attacked a Ukrainian military airport in the city of Odessa, destroying many missiles, ammunition, and UAVs.

“The high-precision Onyx missile hit the logistics center at a military airport in the Odessa region,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. “The hangars for the Bayraktar TB2 drones, as well as missiles and ammunition from the US and European countries, were destroyed.”

Russian rockets and artillery simultaneously hit other military targets across Ukraine, including command centers, weapons depots and the S-300 air defense missile system.

The Russian Defense Ministry also announced last week that a missile attack had targeted a depot containing many weapons being shipped to Ukraine by the US and Europe in the southeastern province of Zaporizhzhia, but it was not clear what weapons were destroyed.

After two months of hostilities, Russia is increasing the use of long-range missiles to attack targets on the territory of Ukraine. Russian ground forces also hit multiple targets along the front line more than 480 km in the Donbass region, eastern Ukraine, in order to penetrate enemy lines in the Donetsk, Lugansk and Kharkov regions.

The President of Ukraine repeatedly urged Western countries to increase support for heavy weapons, especially fighter jets, tanks and anti-aircraft missiles to confront Russia in the conflict.

Britain on May 3 said it would provide an additional $375 million in military aid to Ukraine, including electronic warfare equipment and defensive radar systems. This country sent Ukraine more than 5,000 anti-tank missiles and five air defense systems as well as other ammunition and explosives since Russia launched the military campaign.

Meanwhile, the United States has so far provided $3 billion in military aid to Ukraine, and President Joe Biden last week asked Congress to approve a new $20 billion aid package.
