Scary discovery at America’s largest freshwater reservoir

Lake Mead is one of the largest freshwater reservoirs in the United States, located between the states of Arizona and Nevada. The water level in Lake Mead fell so low that for the first time one could see the number 1 water intake valve in the lake bed.

No. 1 water intake valve in this man-made lake bed, which has been supplying water to Nevada residents since 1971, has never been exposed.

In a recent announcement, the Southern Nevada Water Authority said that the top of the water intake valve No. 1 was exposed and could no longer absorb water due to low water levels.

Due to the water level in the lake dropping to a record low, local authorities said a body was discovered inside a barrel at 3pm on May 1 (local time), near Hemenway Harbor.

Specifically, according to Los Angeles TimesShawna Hollister and her husband were anchored at Hemenway Harbor, southwest of Lake Mead, when they discovered the crate and body. Ms Hollister said: ‘I was shocked and didn’t believe it.

Talking about the newly discovered body, Lieutenant Ray Spencer said that personal items found inside the crate showed that this person died more than 40 years ago, in the 1980s.

However, he refused to disclose the cause of death, nor to describe the items found. Lieutenant Ray Spencer said only that police are conducting an investigation and it will take a lot of time and effort to determine the identity of the deceased.

Police will contact experts at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV) to analyze when the barrel started to corrode. The Clark County Coroner’s Office (Nevada) will attempt to identify the body. Photographs of the partially exposed body were published in the media.
