Signs that your computer is infected with a virus

Signs that your computer has a virus or not?

Poor performance, app crashes, and computer crashes can sometimes be a sign of a virus or some kind malware others are ravaging. However, that’s not always the case. There are many other causes of problems that can slow down your PC.

Just because your personal computer runs well doesn’t mean it’s free of malware, technology experts say. Viruses often invade the computer and use a lot of system resources. Modern malware is more likely to lurk silently and secretly in background apps, able to get hold of your credit card numbers and other personal information. In other words, today’s malware is often created by cybercriminals just to make money, and well-crafted malware won’t cause any noticeable computer problems.

However, sudden poor computer performance can be a sign that you have malware. Strange applications on your system may also contain malware.

There is no best way to find viruses without scanning your PC for malware. Sometimes malware causes computer problems and sometimes it works fine in background apps. The only way to know for sure if you have malware is to check your computer system.

How to check if your computer is infected with a virus?

You may be wondering if your computer has a virus because you have seen a strange process in the Windows Task Manager, which you can open by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc or by clicking right click on the Windows taskbar and select “Task Manager”.

You’d normally see quite a few processes here – click “More details” if you see a smaller list. Many of these processes have strange, confusing names. That is normal. Windows includes quite a few background processes, your PC manufacturer has added some applications in it.

Malicious software often uses large amounts of CPU, memory, or disk resources and can be prominent here. If you want to know if a particular program is malicious, right-click it in Task Manager and select “Search Online” to find more information.

If malware information appears when you search through the process, it’s a sign that your computer may have malware. If you are concerned that your device may have malware, we recommend that you perform an anti-malware scan.
