Summer 2022 comes late, forecast is not

From April 25-28, the Northern and North Central provinces experienced the first large-scale heat wave of this summer. However, the heat took place in a short time (two days in the Northern Delta, 3 days in the Northwest and North Central). In particular, the intense heat is concentrated in the western mountainous areas of the North Central Coast and the Northwest region. The Red River Delta only appears hot locally with the highest temperature of about 35-36 degrees Celsius, especially the Northern mountainous region has not yet recorded hot weather.

According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, in the next 10 days, no hot weather will be recorded in the North and the North Central region. Specifically, from now until about May 6, it’s sunny, the mornings and nights are cold, the highest temperature is about 29-31 degrees Celsius. From May 7, due to the impact of the low trench, the northern region and the North Central region cloudy, cloudy for many days, showers and thunderstorms appear in places.

It is forecasted that in the second half of May, hot weather is likely to appear in the North and Central regions, but the number of hot days in the month tends to be lower than the average of many years. The hot weather in the North and Central regions is considered to be not as intense and lasting as 2020.

Rainfall in the North and Central region this summer is also more than the average of many years. Specifically, in the North, from May to September, 2022, the total common rainfall is 5-25% higher than the average of many years, in October 2022 in the Northeast and the Northern Delta, there is a high probability of rainfall. 15-30 % higher than the average of many years in the same period.

In the Central region, from May to July, the common rainfall is 5-15% higher than the average of many years in the same period. In August, the prevailing total rainfall is 5-20% lower than the average for many years. In September 2022, the total rainfall is approximately equal to the average of many years, especially in October 2022, the total common rainfall is 15-40% higher than the average of many years.
