After 700 years of being lost at sea, a giant ghost ship suddenly appeared in the middle of the streets of Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, with the same integrity as if it had just “passed through the air” straight from the past.

According to Live Science, the ship is buried about 1.5 meters underground. The ship’s ruins are made of oak and are just over 24 meters long with a girder. The widest point of the ship is 9 m . wide

According to researcher Priit Lätti from the Estonian Maritime Museum, the original length of the ship was even larger, because part of the bow was lost or damaged. Test results show that the ship was built in the early 14th century.

The massive ghost ship was unearthed near Tallinn’s Old Port by a surveyor led by archaeologist Mihkel Tammet. Because the area is suspected to contain many monuments, every construction requires an archaeologist to be present. After the discovery, the ghost ship relic was handed over to the Estonian Maritime Museum.

The reason the ship mysteriously appeared on the streets of the capital could be because 700 years ago, the area was still a shallow sea. The shipwreck has been gradually buried by accretion sand, which is why the hull is still amazingly well preserved as if it had just “passed through the air” from the ancient world to the time of discovery.

Features revealed it was most likely a member of the then powerful merchant fleet of the Hanseatic League, a group of trade associations whose activities spanned Europe, dominating the surrounding seas. from the 13th to 15th centuries.

Looks like the ghost ship just finished its fateful delivery. Its middle cargo compartment is quite empty, containing only a few wooden crates, pottery, animal bones, some leather goods and textiles. But scientists suspect that the unexcavated stern still contains many valuable artifacts.

The ship itself is a priceless treasure because its integrity will help historians and archaeologists learn a lot about medieval shipbuilding and trading, as well as the life of the sailors. group. Dr Priit Lätti considers this ghost ship to be the “jackpot” of Tallinn archeology.
