Vehicles poured onto the street were the most crowded since the epidemic

During the holiday season of April 30 and May 1, people flocked to their hometowns to travel at the highest rate since the end of 2019. A series of congested roads caused the management unit to discharge toll stations.

On the afternoon of May 3, reporting on the traffic situation during the holiday, the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) assessed the highest number of vehicles pouring into the road since the Covid-19 epidemic (end of 2019). People travel almost at the same time, so congestion occurs not only in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City but also in localities with tourist attractions.

Specifically, in Hanoi from the afternoon of April 29, congestion was recorded at most of the gateway routes, in which Phap Van – Cau Gie was congested until more than 1 o’clock on April 30. Then at 5 am on April 30, the number of vehicles increased again, it took until nearly 11 am on the same day to clear traffic again.

On the Hanoi – Lao Cai expressway, at 3:30 p.m. on May 1, at the toll station heading to Hanoi, the authorities had to open three more toll lanes for vehicles to pass through the station. Roads to major tourist destinations such as Cat Ba (Hai Phong), Ha Long (Quang Ninh), Sam Son (Thanh Hoa) are congested.

In the South, on the morning of April 30, VEC discharged the Long Phuoc toll station on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay highway from 5:45 am, lasting more than 2 hours. This is the longest discharging time ever at Long Phuoc station. On the afternoon of May 2, this station continued to be congested from 3:38 pm, the toll collection unit had to discharge many lanes in the direction of Dong Nai – Ho Chi Minh City in 15 minutes.

At National Highway 60, the section of the toll station and Rach Mieu bridge (between Tien Giang and Ben Tre) was congested for a long time, so the toll collection unit had to discharge the station 4 times on April 29. On the morning of April 30, this area continued to be congested, the toll station had to discharge in the direction of Tien Giang to Ben Tre from 8:00 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. On the afternoon of May 2, the BOT station of Rach Mieu Bridge continued to discharge once from 15:00 to 18:36.

In which, the most common mistakes were not wearing helmets with nearly 5,000 cases, alcohol violations of nearly 3,400 people, 22 drivers were positive for drugs.

Particularly, the patrol and control teams of the Traffic Police Department made records of nearly 190 cases, fined nearly 700 million VND, revoked 80 driving licenses. The Department’s surveillance camera system has recorded 450 violations.

This year, because April 30 and May 1 coincide with Saturday and Sunday, cadres and civil servants are entitled to a 4-day holiday from April 30 to May 3. The number of Covid-19 cases is decreasing sharply, in recent weeks it has fluctuated from 2,700 to 3,000 per day. Localities have removed barriers to epidemic prevention, bringing life back to almost before the epidemic.
