The patient with a rare accident is Mr. HVB (35 years old, address in Can Tho, working in Phu Quoc, Kien Giang province), admitted to the Emergency Department of Can Tho Central General Hospital at 3:40 pm on May 2. (with a wound on the right abdomen measuring about 2 x 5m).

According to the patient’s family, one day before, the patient used a lawn mower at the fence to cut the barbed wire of the fence, causing the wire to break. Seeing that the wound was mildly painful, had little bleeding, thought it was not serious, the patient did not go to the doctor.

About 12 hours later, the patient felt tired, had difficulty breathing, and had more and more chest pain, so he went to a local hospital for examination and quickly transferred to Can Tho Central General Hospital.

Result of straight chest X-ray, echocardiography, color echocardiography, and contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan showed a contrast foreign body 4 x 0.4cm long, located along the posterior wall of the left ventricle and with a shunt into the heart chamber. .

The patient is indicated for emergency surgery. After 120 minutes, the surgical team of the Department of Thoracic Vascular Surgery of the hospital performed surgery to remove the foreign body, which is a metal piece 4 x 0.4cm long, blood spurted out. The doctors sutured the left ventricular posterior wall, carefully checked hemostasis, pumped the pericardial cavity, closed the pericardium…

On the afternoon of May 4, the patient was awake, breathing on his own, his vital signs were stable, the incision was dry, he continued to be monitored and treated at the Department of Thoracic Vascular Surgery.
