Trinh Pham shared about her journey of pursuing her passion at the BUV Info Day event in April 2022 of British University Vietnam.

1. Don’t wait for the perfect time to start

Trinh Pham recalls that when she posted her first video in 2013, Trinh had no knowledge of professional filming and editing. “I was “naive” not realizing that the video was out of focus until a friend asked me why my videos are so blurry?”, Trinh laughed when talking about the first “career incident”. The result was then unexpected, the video was received beyond expectations, Trinh officially entered the world of beauty blogger.

For Trinh, “now” is always the best time to start working. “If I wait for a good camera, good lights… I don’t know when my video will be finished!”. Gradually, Trinh learned how to edit videos. Every day when she wakes up, Trinh thinks about the topic for the next video, how to make the content she brings useful to everyone.

Trinh reminds young people not to wait for a perfect time to pursue their passion, let’s start working as soon as possible

Passion takes effort and time to bear fruit. There are no shortcuts to success overnight, days, months or even years. In the first 3 years of building a YouTube channel, Trinh earned only 100 USD. In order to have money to “feed” her passion, Trinh used to have to “plow” 2 jobs at the same time: working at the office during the day, and working hard at night to edit videos. The first months of salary are also spent on buying lights, tripods, lenses, cosmetics…

From her own lessons when pursuing her passion at the age of 23, later than some current Z genes, Trinh Pham encourages young people to start as soon as possible. “Among our staffs, there is a second year university student who applied for an internship even though the job is extremely busy and the monthly salary is only a few hundred thousand. Before the event, when talking with some BUV students, I’m very impressed with the fact that you guys learned specialized knowledge and went to practice very early.”

At BUV, students are encouraged and given the opportunity to do an internship right from the first year of study. Internship positions are not limited to your field of study, but extend to all fields from accounting, finance, human resources… to marketing and advertising. In 2021 alone, BUV’s Student Development and Career Department has provided more than 2000 internship opportunities at more than 400 leading enterprises such as Ernst & Young Vietnam, KPMG Vietnam, Nestlé, Heineken, PIAGGIO, L’Oreal , First Alliances, Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel…

With a program that alternates 3 months of study with 3 months of flexible internship, when graduating, each BUV student can “pocket” 5-6 internships, equivalent to about 1 year of work experience. That not only attracts future employers, but also helps you discover and nurture your passion at the earliest opportunity.

2. Skills and knowledge to open the way to the future

Each profession requires a certain set of knowledge and skills. According to Trinh Pham, there will be some core competencies for Gen Z that need to be equipped while still in school. “When I went to school and work in both the US and Vietnam, I realized the value of the skills I and my friends have acquired while studying in an international educational environment. That is the ability to use English fluently, effective teamwork, proactive spirit, flexible approach and problem-solving.” However, Trinh still emphasizes the importance of practical experience. According to the beauty blogger, some international students with excellent results when returning to Vietnam still need time and a chance to get used to the “indigenous” elements of the business environment.

How to develop the above skills? For Trinh, if you want to do well, do a lot! If you want to pursue success, you must have the courage to step out of your comfort zone, dare to do the things you love but have been afraid of for a long time.

This is also a lesson that MC Do Phuong Linh, a second-year BUV student majoring in International Business Administration, shared during the event. Linh used to work as a Project Assistant and contributed to the success of the TEDx BUV 2021 talkshow, which attracted up to 400 participants. “BUV has more than 30 clubs with many interesting events and prestigious competitions. It is this dynamic environment that has “pulled” me out of my comfort zone. In the past 2 years, I have tried my hand at staying at the club. Many positions such as event organizer, editor, bilingual MC… Thanks to that, I have met excellent people who are entrepreneurs, marketing experts, content creators. How to coordinate events and lead listeners to attract “- Linh said.

Phuong Linh takes on the role of MC in many big events at BUV

Her passion for communicating and connecting people has helped Phuong Linh from a timid student to a dynamic student who always “fires” at every event. With Trinh Pham, Trinh’s career started with passion and went far through effort, knowledge and practical experience. The stories shared at the BUV Info Day event have inspired students to confidently turn their passion into the ideal career for the future.
