Ford officially kicked off deliveries of the F-150 Lightning last week with production of the electric pickup, at least for the foreseeable future, already full. However, this is not Blue Oval’s only electric pickup line when CEO Jim Farley also last week revealed that they are developing “another new electric pickup model”.
The above message, most likely, is about the all-electric version of the new Ford Ranger when the last name in their pickup lineup is the small Maverick, which is still in the first generation.
According to a YouTuber, Miss Electric, she had a short conversation with CEO Jim Farley and gained some valuable information about the aforementioned “mysterious” project. Specifically, the electric pickup will have an advanced active aerodynamics system and optimized aerodynamic design to increase the maximum operating range. For the same reason, the car design “will be very fancy, to the point that some people will consider it controversial”.
When asked about the matter, a Ford spokesman said they had “no further information beyond what has been announced” and that it was “a new generation electric pickup that is different from the F-150 Lightning”.
Still according to the same source, the new pickup costs about $7,000 more than the F-150 Lightning, but has a superior operating range of about 150 km (about 670 km in total). Vehicle development is said to have taken at least two years.
Ford has officially separated the electric and gas car business
In March, Ford separated its operations segment into two distinct branches. The Ford Model E is responsible for the development and sales of electric vehicles, while the Ford Blue ramps up its current lineup of engines such as the Mustang, Bronco and F-150. Their goal is to sell these 2 branches to a 50:50 balance globally from 2030 onwards.
