Nhat Kim Anh’s diamond thief was sentenced to 18 years in prison

On May 4, Son was convicted by the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City Property theft. Tran Minh Thang, 37 years old, was sentenced to 12 years as an accomplice.

The court forced Son and Thang to jointly compensate singer Nhat Kim Anh an amount of nearly 2.2 billion VND. Son alone had to return more than 7 billion VND to 6 other victims, not 5 billion VND as confessed by the accused.

Related to the case, Tran Thi Nha Trang, 36 years old, received 5 years in prison for the crime Consuming property obtained by other people’s crimes.

Previously, defending Son, the lawyer asked the jury to return the additional investigation file because he thought that the case had many procedural violations and the defendant was forced to testify. However, because Son admitted to the whole crime, opposed the defense lawyer’s opinion, confirmed that he was not forced to testify, the court did not accept the lawyer’s proposal.

The judgment determined, on July 14, 2019, Son invited Thang to Camelia residential area, Binh Chanh district, to observe the situation to steal. In the evening of the same day, the couple, carrying a crowbar and a knife, broke into Nhat Kim Anh’s villa while the singer was away. Thang stood outside the guard, Son went inside to break the safe and steal many rings, diamonds, 100 taels of SJC gold, cash… totaling nearly 4.6 billion VND, and then escaped.

After dividing to Thang 400 million, Son gave gold thanks to Trang sold 3.9 billion, paid her 100 million dong. Three months later, Son and his accomplices were arrested.

During the investigation, Son told Hai and Hoang in 2013 that he stole 6 other cases, taking a lot of money, gold, and foreign currency… with a total value of more than 5 billion VND from the victims. In which, Son twice asked Trang to sell his property, paying 200 million dong. Most of the stolen money was used by Son’s group to bet on football, gamble and spend.
