One in 10 people over 60 in Singapore has dementia

About 25 large banners were hung around the neighborhood and 120 posters were posted at hawker centers and cafes providing information on how residents can support dementia patients. Twice a week, the center organizes dementia seminars for residents and volunteers.

Ms. Padma Soh – Montfort Care Social Worker shared: “We provide workshop participants with basic skills so they can recognize the signs of dementia and how they can help them. In addition, these communities also arrange exercise areas to improve physical fitness and games to improve memory for patients.”

Experts estimate that each year the number of people with dementia in Singapore increases by 10 to 15%. It is expected that by 2030, there will be 150,000 people diagnosed with this disease.

Not only forming friendly communities for people with dementia, Singapore also recently launched a center dedicated to research on this disease for Asians. With the integration of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, the center is hoping to find new strategies to prevent and treat as well as improve the lives of patients with this disease.
