The trend of ‘avoiding the crowd’ during the April 30 holiday

Da Lat, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc are open… even though these localities were predicted to be overloaded during the holidays.

In addition to the unfavorable weather factor, the holidays of April 30 and May 1 this year did not record overcrowding in many destinations that were warned a few weeks ago. The road and air gateway to major cities on the last day of the holiday such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City did not experience crowds or congestion, although the number of people moving was still high.

There are three reasons why many people in the tourism industry and tourists are satisfied, and at the same time, it shows a new trend after the epidemic, which is that tourists arrange their vacation more flexibly to avoid crowded scenes.

First, guests choose newer destinations after the epidemic, instead of crowded places like Da Lat and Vung Tau. This time, Da Lat welcomed about 101,000 visitors, down 30.6% compared to 2021. Staying guests reached 70,000, down 42.6%. Mr. Le Anh Kiet, Head of the City’s Culture and Information Department, said the number of visitors this year decreased partly because the locality had just held the previous Tourism Week, which welcomed more than 150,000 visitors.

The number of visitors to Vung Tau also decreased by 20.5% over the previous year, with 165,000 arrivals. Central roads such as Thuy Van, Ha Long, Tran Hung Dao … or open beaches. Rainy weather also affects many tourists’ plans.

Newer destinations such as Binh Dinh welcomed 192,000 visitors, an increase of 92% compared to the same holiday last year. Hotels and resorts are 75-100% full, especially 3-5 star establishments along the sea. Visitors also love nature activities such as cave exploration in Quang Binh. This province welcomes about 115,000 arrivals, an increase of 4.6% in the same period of 2021. Familiar destinations, but with large facilities such as Da Nang, Nha TrangThanh Hoa, Phu Quoc… also attract visitors.

The second reason, visitors may still go to “hot spots” but have already made the trip sooner or later 1-2 days. They will have to shorten the journey or apply for more leave but in return, the peace of mind. This is also how Nguyen Thuy Duong, 28 years old, from Hanoi, applies to her trip to Dalat and describes it with the word “satisfied”. She went to the city on May 1 instead of the first day of the holiday on April 30.

Mr. Bui Thanh Tu, Marketing Director of BestPrice Travel, said that this year, he noticed that a large number of guests booked deviations within 2 weeks before or after the holiday. “This helps tourists save more money and avoid crowded scenes. But this audience is mostly young people because they have more flexible time,” he said.

Third, tourists spread out their vacations throughout the year, instead of focusing exclusively on the holiday, according to Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, Vice Chairman of the Kien Giang Tourism Association. This is also the reason why Phu Quoc is often full at 3-5 star hotels on weekends.

“The trend of dividing trips at different times of the year, different locations to avoid fatigue and lack of services. This is a good sign for the tourism industry, when the number of visitors increases but the service is still still there. guaranteed,” he said.

In April, Vietnam served 10.5 million domestic visitors, up 16.7% over the same period last year. Of which, staying guests reached 6.3 million. On the anniversary of the death anniversary, destinations such as Vung Tau, Da Nang, Kien Giang, Khanh Hoa welcomed tens of thousands of visitors.
