Using drones to smuggle guns from the US to Canada

Police near the town of Port Lambton, Ontario province of Canada recently recovered nearly a dozen pistols that were illegally brought across the border by drone.

According to the sheet The Guardian On May 3, the police received a call from many people in the area about a drone hovering over a house. The town of Port Lambton is located in southern Canada and borders the city of Detroit, in the northeastern United States.

Resident Christine Ackwood said one of her neighbors spotted a stranger standing in her yard flying a drone in the middle of the night. After losing control caused flying device entangled in a tall tree, the driver jumped into a car parked nearby and fled. At that time, the Ackwood family was away from home, so they did not know about the incident.

After arriving at the scene, the police recovered the vehicle drone attached to a plastic bag containing 11 pistols, most of which are banned in Canada. Photos shared by police show the serial number of a black pistol that appears to have been blurred.

Police suspect that the drone was flown from the US state of Michigan over the Saint Clair River, the border between the US and Canada. The identity of the operator and recipient of the gun has not yet been determined.

According to The Guardian, many pistols used to commit crimes in Canada originated in the United States and were smuggled in. Previously, those guys smuggle often use trucks, passenger cars and planes to carry guns across the border.

The use of drones may be a new way, but it is not clear if there has been a successful case before. However, police in Ontario say there have been a few cases of bad guys using drones to bring drugs into prisons in the area.
