According to Ms. Lien, to soothe the scratches, she chewed fern leaves and applied them to the wounds. Herbalist Vu Quoc Trung said that ferns are still used as medicine in Eastern medicine.

“However, in order to survive, The most important is still waterc. In fact, people can go without food for many days, but cannot go without water for more than 3-4 days. The woman has been digging through garbage, knows how to find water to sustain life,” said Mr. Vu Quoc Trung.

Before, On April 27, Ms. Lien alone took a bus from Hanoi to Ha Long to get medicine, then went to Yen Tu to worship Buddha at Dong Pagoda. This is also her first time going to Yen Tu. When she went down, she had low blood pressure, so she sat down near the temple railing. When she stood up to continue, she was stunned and fell into the abyss about 30m deep.

Calling for help but failed, Ms. Lien tried to climb up twice but fell down more than 10m away. For 7 days stuck in the abyss, she survived by wrapping nylon around her body to keep warm, dividing meals, distilling water, constantly using devices that make sounds to call for help.

On the morning of May 3, hearing people talking above, Ms. Lien called for help and was saved by the Yen Tu National Forest and Monuments Management Board in coordination with the authorities.
