On Gojek’s GoFood platform, compared to the same period in 2021, the number of users ordering food in Q1 nearly doubled, with a growth rate of 220% in Hanoi. Among them, the number of new users increased sharply in both cities, reaching more than 160% in Hanoi and 80% in Ho Chi Minh City.

Gojek also recorded that the number of orders on GoFood more than doubled in the first three months of 2022 compared to the same period last year, in which the number of orders in Hanoi increased by more than 4 times.

Commenting on this growth, Ms. Le Nguyen Ngoc Dung, GoFood Director of Gojek Vietnam said: “Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, people’s consumption habits have changed dramatically. many people are shifting to using e-commerce platforms, including online food ordering applications.This shift, in addition to active cashless payments, continues even in new normal, demonstrating consumers’ growing interest in health safety and convenience.”

Trends of buying food through online platforms

According to information from Gojek, the frequency of online ordering in the first 3 months of 2022 increased by more than 20% compared to the same period last year. Among the millions of Gojek users, each customer placed an average of 1 GoFood order every 5 days in Q1 2022.

Compared to the first 3 months of 2021, Gojek recorded the highest increase in orders for breakfast (2.5 times), followed by brunch, lunch and dinner – all of which doubled. Late-night orders grew at the slowest pace, but still stood at more than 30%. In terms of proportion of meals, brunch, lunch and dinner are the three most ordered meals online, with each meal accounting for about a quarter of total orders for the day.

Popular snacks

According to Gojek, milk tea continues to lead the category of most ordered drinks on GoFood in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 2022. Flavored tea and pearl yogurt hold the No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively. in both cities. In particular, for the first time, iced milk coffee (iced brown) entered the list of the most ordered drinks on GoFood in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

Most of the dishes ordered most on the GoFood platform are pure Vietnamese dishes, such as chicken rice, spring rolls, vermicelli, noodles… Bun dau, which is considered a dish of the North, leads the list.
