The fourth quarter of 2022 is the time when the all-electric Volvo XC90 will launch according to confirmation from the CEO of the Swedish brand, Mr. Jim Rowan.
Volvo’s first all-electric vehicle using a dedicated chassis will be the mainstay of sales and a “savior” to help save the Swedish brand from a difficult period. In the first quarter of the past, Volvo had suffered a serious decline in profit because of supply chain disruptions, rising raw material prices and a short period of factory closures.
As we already know, Volvo’s full-size all-electric SUV will drop the naming scheme that combines letters and numbers. Instead, this model and its entire future lineup will have its own name that, according to the Swedish brand’s research, “evokes more emotions with customers”.
Volvo Recharge Concept (2021) is said to be a preview of the new Embla/XC90.
The car’s most rumored name is Embla, which quite coincides with former CEO Hakan Samuelsson’s confirmation that the first letter will be a vowel (O, E, A, U or I). This name is inspired by Norse mythology, specifically the name of the first woman in history (like Eve in the Adam and Eve anecdote).
Design Volvo Embla will improve from the concept frame Recharge (2021) with a style very different from what the company is currently using. The selected chassis is the SPA2 type, which supports both traditional electric and gasoline powertrain technologies, and future large Volvo models will also switch to this chassis.
Design Predictions Volvo Embla
A big advantage of the Volvo Embla is the promised space and practicality that is much higher than before thanks to the new powertrain structure. It is noteworthy that the car has 2 petrol / diesel and electric versions with slightly different designs: the electric version has a short head / tail while the petrol version has a more traditional size ratio.
