The unexpected uses of lemon water in your home

You need to create gloss for pots and pans, polish the dining table or remove rust stains, even whiten clothes… All it takes is lemon. Lemon has a wonderful cleaning effect with its acidity and fresh scent – it will do wonders around your home.

Polishing aluminum pots and pans

To brighten dull aluminum pans, cut a lemon in half and rub the cut side over the inside and outside of the pan. To polish stainless steel and copper pots, cut a lemon in half and dip it in salt. Rub onto metal surfaces to remove stains and grime. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.

Kill bacteria on cutting boards and wooden utensils

Lemon juice has antibacterial properties, which help kill bacteria that can live in small stains on pizza stones, plastic and wooden cutting boards, and wooden utensils. After washing, coat the surface with lemon juice and leave for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse with hot water and pat dry.

Eliminate odors in the drain

The lemon will help remove any build-up of grease so it can wash away and leave a fresh scent. Alternatively, you can boil water with lemon juice and pour it down the drain to eliminate odors.

Remove yellow stains from clothes

Some antiperspirants react with body salts to create yellow stains on white clothes and fade colors on colored shirts. To remove stains, mix one part baking soda, one part lemon juice, and one part water.

Use a soft-bristled brush to apply the solution to the stain and let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes. Wash as usual.

Eliminate Insects

Spiders, ants, and fleas are very sensitive to smells, and they don’t like the smell of lemons. Squeeze lemon juice or leave strips of lemon zest on window sills, door sills, and along baseboards to keep these insects out.

Get rid of old stains in the toilet

To get rid of water lines and rust stains on the toilet, make a mixture of laundry detergent and lemon juice. Apply the mixture to the stain and let it sit for at least two hours before scrubbing it off.

Furniture polishing

Mix one part lemon juice and two parts olive oil to create a furniture polish. Shake well before each use and apply with a soft cloth, then polish to a high shine.
