Ukraine: Civilians continue to be evacuated from Azovstal fortress

According to the news agency Reutersearlier on the same day, the Office of the President of Ukraine announced that Mr. Zelensky had called on United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to help rescue those trapped at the Azovstal plant.

Zelensky’s office quoted Zelensky in the latest statement: “The lives of those there are in danger. Everyone is important to us. We ask for your help in this. save them”.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities said they would implement a three-day ceasefire from May 5 to evacuate more people from the Azovstal steel plant.

From 8 to 18 hours (Moscow time) from May 5 to 7, the Russian armed forces will open a humanitarian corridor from the Azovstal factory area to evacuate civilians. During this time, the armed forces of Russia and the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) will unilaterally cease any hostilities.”

According to the news agency TASSduring this time, Russian and DPR forces will withdraw to a safe distance and ensure the safe exit of civilians in any chosen direction, towards Russia or to the territories held by Kiev control.

Radio RT reported that on May 1, hundreds of civilians were evacuated from bunkers at the Azovstal plant in a humanitarian effort supported by the United Nations and the International Red Cross. The evacuation was carried out after Russia agreed to a ceasefire.
