18 Chinese planes close to Taiwan

The Taiwan Defense Ministry said 18 Chinese military planes flew into the island’s air defense identification zone.

Defense Agency Taiwan On May 6, it was announced that 18 Chinese military aircraft including two H-6 bombers, six J-11 fighters, six J-16 fighters, two KJ-500 early warning aircraft, one patrol aircraft Y-8 anti-submarine warfare aircraft and a Y-8 electronic warfare aircraft.

The second group, consisting of Y-8 anti-submarine reconnaissance aircraft and H-6 bombers, flew over the southern waters to the southeast of the island of Taiwan and then back to the base. The other group includes early warning aircraft KJ-500 and J-16 fighters flying near the Dongsha Islands.

Taiwan’s Defense Agency said it sent fighter jets to respond, and deployed anti-aircraft missile complexes to track the group of Chinese military aircraft.

Beijing has not commented on the report.

The number of Chinese aircraft participating in this close to Taiwan island is the second highest this year. The closest approach with the largest scale took place on January 23, when 39 Chinese military aircraft entered the ADIZ of the island of Taiwan.

China has always considered Taiwan as a province awaiting reunification and vowed to use force if necessary. In addition to flights close to the island of Taiwan, the Chinese military also conducted many landing exercises to occupy the coast near the island.

China’s Ministry of National Defense affirmed that military activities near the island of Taiwan are aimed at protecting the country’s sovereignty and aimed at “collusion” between the island’s “secessionist forces” and the United States, which Taiwan’s most important backer.

Taiwanese island officials have released information about Chinese military aircraft’s close encounters since September 2020. The period when the number of close encounters was recorded the most was October 2021 with 196 visits, of which 149 took place in the 4 days after the National Day of China.
