Cisco launches new cybersecurity assessment tool

Network security has become a major area of focus for organizations as they adopt hybrid working, allowing employees to work securely from anywhere and through different devices. This has widened the attack surface and increased cybersecurity risks beyond the scope of enterprise protection.

The new online assessment tool assesses each organization’s “cybersecurity readiness” through a “Zero Trust” approach, meaning all attempts to access an organization’s network structure institutions are not accepted until reliability can be verified. When the user accesses the application with any device, both the user and the device are verified and continuously monitored. This helps protect your organization’s applications and environments from any user, device, and location.

This tool measures an organization’s maturity in six dimensions of Zero Trust, including: users and identities, devices, networks, workloads (applications), data, and secure operations . After an organization enters details about its security policies and capabilities, the tool evaluates the organization’s overall security posture against industry and sector standards.

The tool aggregates a separate report for each organization, showing their maturity, challenges and opportunities in each of the six dimensions of Zero Trust. In addition, the tool can provide tailored recommendations on technologies and solutions that strengthen the organization’s overall security position and readiness in a hybrid workplace.

SMEs in Vietnam are becoming more and more aware of current cybersecurity risks, and they are investing more to be well prepared in the event of a cyber incident. According to the study “Cybersecurity for SMEs: Asia-Pacific businesses prepare for digital defense” by Cisco, 71% of small and medium enterprises in Vietnam now said that they care more about network security than 12 months ago.

The study also said that about 59% of small and medium enterprises across Vietnam experienced network problems in the past 12 months. Nearly a third (30%) say these cyber incidents cost their businesses more than $500,000. The number one cause of these problems is the inability of cybersecurity solutions to detect or prevent an attack. These attacks have a noticeable impact on small and medium-sized businesses – from disruptions to operations, loss of revenue to negative impact on the reputation of the organization.

Many companies have transitioned to hybrid work due to the pandemic, which has resulted in the majority of employees connecting to organizations’ networks and accessing information from outside the office, many of which use devices. personal to do this. According to small and medium enterprises in Vietnam participating in the survey, unsecured laptops, targeted attacks by hackers and the use of personal devices are the most common threats. to the overall security of the organization.

Ms. Luong Thi Le Thuy, General Director of Cisco Vietnam, said: “More technology adoption also means that there is an increasing risk of cyber security attacks as the attack surface expands. As small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam accelerate the digitalization process to delivering next-generation applications and improving hybrid working in the new normal, ensuring that their organization is protected at all costs will continue to be a top priority.”

“As the first step in adopting this strategy, SMEs can use Cisco’s new online assessment tool to help them improve resilience by providing knowledge about the level of Cybersecurity preparedness as well as opportunities and vulnerabilities that need to be kept in mind” – she added.
